Goals:
|
Recent years have seen modifications in social behaviour derived from changes in the predominant values and lifestyles in developed societies. As a result, new tourism demands have appeared which have given rise to what can be called “new tourism developments” or “new tourism products”, one of which is Rural Tourism. This subject is framed so that the student not only gains a deep understanding not only of the different theories and models related to Rural Tourism but also can plan and manage Rural Tourism. |

1. Rural tourism and development. Nuclei of rural tourism. 2. Some issues surrounding the concept of rural tourism. 3. Rural tourism in Germany and Austria. 4. Rural tourism in France. 5. General characteristics of rural tourism in Spain. 6. Rural tourism in Asturias. 7. Some developments in rural tourism in Spanish regions: Galicia, Cantabria and the Basque Country. 8. Performance in quality in rural tourism. 9. Performance in supply of complementary activities to rural tourism. 10. Plans for excellence and dynamisn in tourism as an aid to rural tourism.

Metodology and Assessment system:
|
Lectures will be combined with case studies, visits to rural tourism installations, and individual student work. The evaluation of the subject will be based on the participation of the student in class, attendance at visits, the presentation of work, and a final exam. The final exam will account for 70% of the overall grade.
