Goals:
Knowing how to apply the computer science in industry with special emphasis in those related to process control and sypervisory based
on PLCs. An important goal is to achive knowledge on applying the IEC 61131 standard, and OPC communications.
Content:
Automated system. Operative part, control part, supervision part. Interfaces. Automation technologies. Examples of application.
Industrial programmable automata. Introduction to standard IEC61131. Elements common to the programming languages of
programmable automata. Programme Organisation Units (POUs). Sequential Functional Diagram. Elements of application programme
configuration. Graphic and literal programming languages. SCADA systems (Supervision, Control and Data Acquisition). Industrial
communication systems. OPC specification.
Bibliography:
“AUTÓMATAS PROGRAMABLES” Balcells, J. y Romeral, J.L. (1997) Marcombo; “FUNDAMENTOS DE LA TÉCNICA DE MANDO” Bocksnick,
Bernd (1990); Festo Didactic “LOS AUTOMATISMOS PROGRAMABLES” Bouteille, Daniel (1991) y otros. Editions CITEF; “COMPUTER
CONTROL OF MACHINES AND PROCESS” Bollinguer, J.G. y Duffie, N.A. (1988) Addison-Wesley; “NORMA UNE-EN-61131-1,2,3” (1994)
AENOR; “DOCUMENTACIÓN TÉCNICA S7-300 y Profibus” Siemens; TSX Micro y X-Way” Schneider
Metodology and Assessment system:
There could be a theoretical test weighted 30% of the total mark. The 70% left will come from the evaluation of a practicum essay that
will consist on applying theoretical concepts related to process control and supervisory by using PLCs and SCADA software.

Traditionally, this subject has been organised in a way that allows the student to gradually achieve new knowledge and proff it to the
proffesor (by means of incremental deliverables of the forementioned essay), so by the end of Eastern the subject is over.
