Goals:
We try to introduce the students to the Physics that controls the behavior of atomic nuclei. We will deal with the rules that constrain nuclear reactions and the stability of nuclei. We will also give some knowledge about two new (as from the student's point of view) fundamental interactions in Nature: the strong interaction and the weak interaction. |
Content:
1) Nucleons: charge and isotopic invariances. 2) Nuclear Models: Fermi Gas, Liquid Drop Model, Shell Model, Colective Model. 3) Nuclear Reactions. Fusion and fision of nuclei. 4) Nuclear Decay. 5) Fermi's Golden Rule. 6) Properties and Classification of elementary particles in The Standard Model. 7) Discrete Symmetries in Particle Physics. 8) Quark Model. Strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions. 9) Short introduction to astroparticles and primordial nucleosynthesis. |

Metodology and Assessment system:
Theoretical issues are explained in detail motivated by practical problems that serve as examples and applications. There are two exams. The first one is a "home exam" containg problems on all topics of the course. The student is supposed to solve them in several days (seven, at least). The second exam will take place the day the oficial exam is scheduled. The degree will be obtained as the arithmetic average of the two scores.
