Goals:
- Identify control systems architecture, technologies and equipments.
- Design and develop control programs for PLC using different languajes and methodologies, specially the standard IEC 61131-3. Practices with Simatic S7 and others commercial PLC.
- Use industrial networks and SCADA systems (Profibus, AS-i, WinCC, etc.).
- Schedule and develop automation projects.
Content:
1. Automatized control system architecture. Automation technologies.
2. Industrial programmable logic controller (PLC). Hardware and software features.
3. PLC programming. Introduction to the standard IEC 61131-3.
4. Supersion control and data adquisition systems.
5. Desing and configuration of industrial communication networks.
6. Automation projects: case studies and development.

Metodology and Assessment system:
METHODOLOGY:
· Basic concepts description, in the theory classes using blackboard and slides, specific software and documentation.
· Practical classes into the laboratory using simulators, training panels, pilot plants and real PLCs (Simatic S7, SCADA WinCC and industrial network components. Visit plant could be included during the course.
ASSESSMENT:
· An exam with sort questions in June and/or setember (30%).
· Some reports about different subjects around automation technologies. (10%)
· An automation project using PLCs, SCADA software and industrial networks for two or three student groups. (60%)
