Goals:
Broaden previously acquired knowledge regarding the different atmospheric pollutants, the effects these may produce and the regulations for preventing air pollution
Further students’ knowledge regarding the monitoring of air quality
Become acquainted with the factors that affect pollutant dispersal in the air and dispersion models
Train in the selection of equipment that enables the minimization of the environmental impacts of air pollutants
Train in the carrying out of calculations leading to the sizing of equipment for treating gaseous effluents
Develop the capacity of analysis and synthesis. Acquire the capacity to work in a team
Content:
Unit 1. General aspects of air pollution
Unit 2. Air pollution control regulations
Unit 3. Dispersal of pollutants into the atmosphere
Unit 4. Design and operating of particulate matter treatment systems (I): sedimentation chambers and cyclones
Unit 5. Design and operating of particulate matter treatment systems (II): electrostatic precipitators, filtering systems and wet separators
Unit 6. Design and operating of gas treatment systems (I): Gas absorption and adsorption
Unit 7. Design and operating of gas treatment systems (II): Chemical oxidation processes
Unit 8. Specific techniques for controlling the emission of pollutant gases: sulphur oxides
Unit 9. Specific techniques for controlling the emission of pollutant gases: nitrogen oxides
Unit 10. Selection of equipment for treating waste gases
